"Cyber space is not reality, it never will, it will never have that human element, that only the eye, and the soul, and the voice can feel and see. We're human beings, social networking is not bettering mankind by any means."
I want to go swing dancing now. After watching this video it all makes sense to me. . . Everything Jarett says is true. Yes technology is evolving into something bigger and better, but it is also breaking us, who we are and what we are. . . piece by piece. Being so sucked in by the mgical powers of Facebook and Twitter as well as other social networks is making us adapt to a different world. Our own world where we put up social barriers, we develop social hysteria and social phobia to the point where we are depressed. ☠ These websites keep us away form our real friends and our true selves. Besides the fact that it is making us crazy, we are too relient on technology. It not only fills the pockets of the creators but it also gives them what they want. . . control. Yes you and I my reader are giving other people control of our lives. Uh . . . I don't know about you but that is not alright with me, I didn't even realize I was doing it!
"Tangable creations are helping us find out our worldly existence a lot better than social networking."
I'm saying technology is not the enemy. . . but it can be if we let it. Let's not let it! Let's go swing dancing! Let's create things with our hands and feet, let's go out on dates with our friends and family. Who cares be all mushy, be you. . . don't let social networking suck you in it's dark hole. Let's think outside the box. ❤☮
This presents a very fine for mankind to walk. There is no love lost between me and facebook. I haven't touched my own since last february, and even then I barely used it. However, I'm also not as against social media as this gentleman is. Humans just need to learn to treat social media like anything else in life. Moderation is key. Facebook, if more of us were willing to use it as such, could be a useful tool for sharing ideas and having deep discussions. Unfortunatly, most people would rather use it to put up pictures of cats and to play farmville...
ReplyDeleteThink of it this way. These blogs we're writing could be considered a form of social media. We're sharing our interests, our stories, and our lives, in a format that anyone could look at and comment on. In that sense, we're very similar to facebook. However, those of us in Prof. Nielson's class have agreed to not just comment, but also to intelligently discuss each others blogs in a frindly, resectful manner. This, I believe, is what a social network should be. A place/tool to socialize, inform, AND develop ideas.
Sorry about the long post. :P
Haha no charm this is excellent! It's exactly on point too, moderation is key as you said. As long as it doesn't get out of control and we use it for the best and not the worst, we should be okay. :)
DeleteThis is so true. Even though technology is awesome and it's able to make our lives easier, it has its own disadvantages. It is a scary thought to think of a world without dances and hangouts.
ReplyDeleteI know it's what I thought as I watched the video. Everything they did back then seemed so much fun, and I bet is a lot funner than being glued to a computer all day.
